Somewhat Cowl

Yesterday I got an urgent message from my daughter that she wants to knit this for her next project.  I love it!  It's called the Somewhat Cowl from the site knit and tonic. The pattern can be downloaded from the site.  It's knit in Blue Sky Alpaca's "Alpaca Silk"sport weight yarn.

I wonder if I have time to rush out to the yarn shop before we leave for the frozen North Country?  I have tons to do--a beef bourguignon to prepare, challah to rise, and a whole lotta laundry to do.  There is always a monumental urge to get one more project ready to roll before we leave.  I must, I must!!!

I will be keeping close count of the number of these nose warmers I see on people walking down the streets of Manhattan, where anything goes. 

not by leaps and bounds

Time to come clean, 'fess up that I'm slower than Mole-asses in January with this modular throw I'm making from the Berroco Foliage.  Since I have not much else in the cooker at the moment, I guess I'll do a progess update on this and hope it is motivating.  I'm loving it, though.  It's so satisfying to finish a module and move on to the next set of pick-up-stitches.  I moved onto circular needles recently, since there are never more than 31 stitches on the needles at a time, and you end up with just one as you finish a square.  I also really like this yarn.  It gives the feeling and the look of Noro Kureyon at 50% of the price.  It's also much softer than Kureyon.  So far I haven't had a single duplicate color series in all the squares, every single one is different!   Lookee!! 

   

Brainstorming a bit

Might as well post some of these ideas while I'm on a roll here, trying to brainstorm some gift ideas.  How about these?  While I've never been a 'critter knitter' it's not to late to start!  These l'il guys are the cutest.  And you can be sure nobody already has one!  The Meowzer below is a free pattern from Knitty, the book is from the collection of Jess Hutch . 

Fast & Furious......

.....is how I have to start knitting!   I just can't believe it's already December 5.  I think I've been in a time-lapse mode since Thanksgiving week.  Nothing like a bolt of reality therapy to get the adrenaline running.  Gift-giving anxiety sets in, and creative thinking is called for.   Some serious knitting time must be arranged.  It's time to stop meandering though the blogosphere and settle in on some realistic goals:  Just how many projects can be completed before December 24?  This year we have the bonus of a Hanukkah and Christmas that coincide.  There are some really wonderful Free Knitting Patterns  for great gift items like this "Gnomey Hat" on Hello Yarn.  Check it out!
